Where is the information I enter saved on my computer? Can I change where the data is saved?
The information you entered is saved in your program. You can always go back to the program and make changes to the information that is already there. You can go back to your program by clicking on the Fedatt shortcut created on your desktop or by the windows menu START > ALL PROGRAMS > FEDATT TRIAL 2007 > FEDATT.EXE for Fedatt2007 and START > ALL PROGRAMS >Federal Attorney Software > FEDATT 2008> FEDATT.exe for Fedatt 2008.
I am concerned about loosing my billing data in the event my computer crashes. where is the information located so that I can back it up my files?
If you need to back up your files, in fact we strongly recommend that you do, do the following:
Copy the entire folder called FEDATT and PASTE it where you want to back up your data.
The folder FEDATT was created when you installed the program and it should be on your C drive inside of the Program Files folder, if you use the default installation. Do not delete any file inside of this folder. All your database is in this folder. When you back up your data you don’t need to install the program again. You can open it immediately by clicking on FEDATT.EXE.
CJA case hourly rates change from time to time and you find yourself invoicing a particular case at one rate up to a certain date, and at another rate from that date onwards. How does one use 2 different rates in one case in your program?
If that happens, you can create a new "file" for that specific case, adding a number 2 at the end of the case number. For instance, you started the billing for Case Number CS-952WR then the rate changed, you can then "create a new case" named: CS-952WR - II for the new rate. You can also name CS-952WR - 1/2 and CS-952WR - 2/2 whatever you feel is best for you. That way you don't get confused and you can submit 2 different bills, each one with their specific correct rates. You can Ask your local authorities how they prefer.
Can I enter data into the program when the computer is off-line?
Yes, you can enter data when your computer is offline.
If I work on one computer, and my admin works on another, is there any way to merge the data into one case?
i.e. if I enter my legal time, but she enters the expenses and costs.
There's only one way you can merge data, it's not actually a merge. You both would have to use the same program.
To do that, you will have to have Fedatt installed in one computer and the other computer needs to be linked to it.
I assume you already have Fedatt installed in your computer.
Follow the steps below:
1.Go to your C drive, Program Files, Federal Attorney Software. " C:\Program Files\Federal Attorney Software"
2. Right click on the folder named FEDATT 2008, click on Properties, then go to the tab "sharing"
3. Check the box "Share this folder in the network" and check the box "allow networks to change my files".
Then go to the computer you want to create a link to your software.
Follow the steps below:
1. Right click on the desktop, choose the option NEW, Shortcut.
2. Click on Browse, My Network Places, and choose the FEDATT 2008 folder you shared on the other computer.
3. Click on FEDATT.EXE, Click NEXT, Name it Fedatt Link, then click Finish.
Now you both can enter data at the same program. In order for the other person to use the program at the same time, your computer needs to be turned on.
Her/his computer does not need to be on for you to use it.
